Saturday at Armchair Book Expo for Bloggersis all about -*“A children’s story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children’s story in the slightest.”
― C.S. Lewis~~~~~~ * ~~~~~So what ‘children’s’ stories do you enjoy ?*

I have to say the stories written by
CS Lewis , the author of the quote ,

  are def some !And include the movies as well.  Brought them to life.

~~~~~~~~~~ * ~~~~~~~I really look forward to that aspect of becoming a NaNa.The opportunity to spend time reading to them.  Total Joy.  At least it was with my kids =)I am anticipating good reading times and new book discoveries along the way!~~~~~~~~~ * ~~~~~~~~~So many directions available for YA, but I probably steer toward classicsfor teaching really good reading material by example.Good vocabulary, dialogue, word usage – all things that add the best to their own development.Obviously our reading influences us, so we need to choose when we knowbelieving affects behaviour.  *One YA series I’ll focus on because I totally enjoyed and participated in the online weekly discussions is Lisa T Bergren’s River of Time.  Time travel from today back to medieval days.Really fabulous and recommended highly around the book blogging world.*
A few fave book quotes from Goodreads –
 “It is a good rule after reading a new book, never to allow yourself another new one
till you have read an old one in between.”
“Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.” “No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally – and often far more – worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond.”
― all by C.S. Lewis Seemed to apply to today’s genre discussion !
Hoping you’re having a great reading day – whatever your genre !
Waterfall Wednesdays discussion final week ~
our final week’s discussion of
“Waterfall”
is hosted by Irresistable Reads
1. After Gabi is injured, the doctor gives her a tonic.  Gabi questions the doctor several times what is in it but he refuses to tell.  Would you have taken the tonic in Gabi’s situation?
that would have to be a no.  i would have asked cook
who would have known the remedies of the day…
2.  Before the games Gabi asks Lia to let Lord Forabosch win in the archery event as people, especially Lord Forabosch, are becoming suspicious of them.  But during the games Lord Forabosch upsets Lia trying to throw her off her game. So Lia decides to win.  Do you think she did the right thing by not letting Lord Forabosch bully her or do you think she took an unnecessary risk?
i don’t think Lia could have caused Forabosch to do any worse
than he’s already schemed.
i gave her credit for standing up to him.
3.  When Gabi is dying and she and Lia decide to return to the tombs so they can get the cure at home, they have to tell Marcello the truth.  Even though Marcello thinks that it is madness that they are from the future he believes in Gabi because he loves her.  Do you think this is believable?  What would you have done if you were Marcello?
his gullibility would easily have been proven
should their story have been disproven,
so he wasn’t taking a big risk.
i would have followed suit.
what really was at risk?
Gabi’s life was endangered.  Marcello acted in love.
he acted in response to the crisis with all his desire
to help her – believe her, trust her…
4.       In the end Gabi and Lia return home.  Do you think Gabi will return to Marcello? Would you go back?
i’m sure she will try.
ooo me?  i’m pretty stuck on life as we know it!
maybe if it was to go back to bring my man back with me!!
5.  Looking back at Waterfall what was your favourite moment?
probably discovering Lia.
the entire courageous confrontational escapade.
this exciting time travel novel is now concluded
BUT
the series continues….
Thank you to each hostess during the Waterfall Wednesday
discussions and each visitor who stopped in to visit!
i’ve entirely enjoyed the journey and look forward to more
River of Time adventures with Gabi and Marcello
Waterfall Wednesdays discussion questions for week 4 ~
 week #4 of our Waterfall book discussion!
questions and link up Here to read other responses
Gabi and Lia both face several life and death situations in these chapters, having to pick up weapons in defense of those they love and experiencing first hand the brutality of close combat. If you had the choice between picking up a weapon and standing on the front lines or staying behind to tend to the wounded as necessary, which would you choose?
my inclination is to stay behind,
yet life has shown me i’m called to the battle front
.
Both girls get to wear extraordinary gowns to their victory celebration; what would your dream medieval gown look like?
had some fun finding medieval gown choices ~
here are my faves
i’d be delited to wear either!!
Gabi has crude stitches put in and must endure both their removal as well as the cauterization of the wound. How is your threshold for pain? Do you think you would have simply gritted your teeth as Gabi does?
would not be gritting my teeth without some painkiller!
Marcello wants to properly court Gabi after they express mutual feelings of affection, wanting to speak with her mother about his intentions. What do you think is the most romantic aspect of medieval courtship?
i like the idea of chivalrous knights’
 pursuit of their heart’s desire…
“Chivalry is one of the main components to medieval courtship.
Thirteenth-century ideals of chivalry dictated that men should honor and serve,
 never do anything to displease maidens and ladies.
The three main factors of the
Ten Commandments of the Medieval Code of Chivalry
are religion, war and love of ladies,
which shows just how important an appreciation for women was considered”
 source
.
Gabi and Lia find themselves with conflicting desires toward the end with Lia wanting to return home and Gabi hoping to stay. Do you think that Gabi is being unfair to Lia for wanting to stay, or is Lia being unfair to Gabi for demanding they go? A little of both?
a situation about which they both must be honest with each other .
once they’d discussed their feelings and reasons,
communication with understanding resulted
and relationship strengthened.
Waterfall Wednesdays discussion questions for week 3 ~
Welcome to another installment of our reading group discussion
 Waterfall Wednesday at Edgy ‘s blog this week is chapters 12-17
of Lisa T. Bergren’s , Waterfall, the first novel in the River of Time series.
Discussion Questions for Chapters 12-17
1. In Siena, on her way to the ball at Palazzo Pubblico, Gabi likened her experience
to being on the red carpet at the Academy Awards, the goal being “to see and be seen.”
If you were a peasant, watching from the crowd,
what would you be thinking as this procession passed by?
possibly, i’d be admiring the beauty and worth of the garments!
if i believed them just, i’d be impressed.
if unjust, i’d be hoping for their end!
2. Though quite nervous about dancing at the ball,
Gabi discovers a strange feeling of connection to the time, the people, and the society
through the unified beauty of the dance.
Have you ever been in a position where you felt out of your element,
but, in one, pinpointed moment,
became a part of or connected to something bigger than your fear?
 beginning my first solo service as an interning priest,
 the moment i stopped beneath the cross
came connection with God and Spirit’s call,
Holy Spirit Presence that was Strength greater than fear.
 all fear was overcome.
absolutely momentous moment!
3. The kiss. Oh, the kiss. When Marcello finally kisses Gabi,
he believes the experience to be proof that they are meant to be together.
What did you think about his assumption?
probably something to do with beliefs of the age he is living in…
Were you surprised at Gabi’s reaction to it?
~ no!  her heart was already waiting and wanting it…
Have you ever experienced a kiss that seemed to be
prophetic in a similar (or opposite!) way?
~ unfortunately, not recently ”)
4. Many go through their teen years with a subdued sense of immortality.
Do you think Gabi has a sense of this teen feeling?
And did you think Gabi’s converse observation,
“Sometimes death came hunting and there was no way to cut it off at the pass.”
was informed more by the experience of losing her father,
her self-admitted closet hypochondria, or
the forced maturation of being transported to a different time?
i believe Gabi’s sense of immortality has been modified
by both her father’s death and the time travel
as Gabi tells Lia,
“we jumped through some time continuum…it’s gotta change us somehow.”
no, i don’t believe the hypochondria would have that same effect.
How does this observation show Gabi’s growth as a character?
it’s revealing that her extreme experiences
have provided opportunity to reflect and review issues of life and death
in new light with the resulting character growth.
5. In the span of a few moments, Gabi goes from sword-wielding teen beauty
to man-killing warrior. Did you think her realization of the finality of death
— and her justification for its necessity —
was realistic?
And, in her slippers, could you have done the same?
having never lived in Gabi’s slippers
i am totally incapable of answering whether this was realistic.
as she had previously noted, the ‘fight or flight’ reaction,
i’m quite sure that would have taken me in its current ~
i’m reading this as her story and so am entranced in her story
rather than making judgement calls while reading.
 i am totally carried along in the movement, motion and emotion
of the moment ~ fantastic action!
